Synopsis: The film is based on the early stories by the outstanding Soviet writer Maxim Gorky. The flamboyant and rugged lifestyle of gypsies living in the Austro-Hungarian Empire early in the 20th century is beautifully screened in this story about the love between a young horse thief and a rebellious young gypsy girl and their tragic deaths during their marriage ceremony. There are several interwoven love lines in this beautiful, poetic drama: of the proud beauty Rada who bewitched the horse thief Loiko Zobar, of golden-haired Yulishka who was in love with Loiko, of noble Siladi, passionately enamored of Rada... Awards: Big Golden Shell at the San Sebastian IFF, 1976; Prize for Best Actress (Svetlana Toma) at the Panama IFF, 1977; Prize for Visual Images at the 11th Congress of UNITEC in Paris.
