Plot: The final film, and the final confrontation between Ogami and Retsudo. With most of his family already dead at Ogami's hands, Retsudo launches one last plot to destroy him, and when that fails, unleashes the fury of every remaining member of the Yagyu Clan.

Great Finale To The "Lone Wolf and Cub" Series,

"Lone Wolf and Cub: White Heaven in Hell" is the sixth and last chapter of the "Lone Wolf and Cub" series. Director Kuroda replaced Kenji Misumi, but you can't tell. In this last adventure, our "hero" Ogami Itto has to battle the last remaining members of the malevolent Yagyu Clan. The film attempts to bring closure to the series, wasting little time on subplots and concentrating more on Ogami and the Yagyus. However, there is an interesting (if brief) subplot about the illegitimate son of the leader of the Clan. But the emphasis here is on ending the series on a high note. Fight sequences are more unrealistic than ever before, and you sense Kuroda is trying hard to outdo previous films. I did not think the movie quiet succeeded in creating a sense of finality, though. Too bad they did not continue the series. I really enjoyed all 6 films and I consider them among the best series of movies I've seen. Impressive camera-work by Chishi Makiura.
