The Steamie' was a 1988 special set in 1953 when women used to take their laundry to the 'Steamie', this special focused on four women getting their washing done at the 'Steamie' on hogmonay, the four were Dolly {Eileen McCallum}, Doreen {Katy Murphy}, 'Magrit' {Dorothy Paul} and Mrs Culfeathers {Sheila Donald}, working at the 'Steamie' is Andy {Peter Mullan}, he is the handyman who likes a tipple. Here the women share their gossip, their happiness and their sadness.'The Steamie' is a classic piece of writing which is still much loved to this day, Written by a legendary actor and an excellent writer, Tony Roper, who we all know and love as 'Jamesie Cotter' from 'Rab C Nesbitt'.
