Guerreros [Warriors] (2002) - Daniel Calparsoro

Warriors aka Guerreros (2002) - Daniel Calparsoro

Image

Synopsis:
Daniel Calparsoro's Guerreros is set in the Balkans in the wake of the ethnic conflict between the Serbs and the Kosovo Albanians that prompted NATO military intervention in 1999.
A group of young Spanish army engineers is stationed in a Kosovo village to help the Albanians recover from the war's devastation.
The unit is sent on a mission to restore electricity to a small town in hostile territory, but their operation is derailed when they get caught up in the fighting between Serb and Albanian paramilitaries. Struggling to stay neutral, the peacekeepers find themselves fighting for survival as they scamper around the Balkan countryside searching for a way back to headquarters. Their descent into the quagmire of ethnic fighting tests the limits of their idealism and underscores the moral complexities posed by humanitarian intervention.
This polished actioner screened at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival.

Tenue de Soirée (1986) Bertrand Blier

Tenue de Soirée (1986)

Genre: Comedy
Director: Bertrand Blier
Country: France
Language: French
Subtitles: none
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 720x416
Length: 80mn
File: Dvdrip / Divx / Avi / 684mb

Cast:
Gérard Depardieu ... Bob
Michel Blanc ... Antoine
Miou-Miou ... Monique
Michel Creton ... Pedro
Jean-François Stévenin ... Husband in house 3
Mylène Demongeot ... Wife in house 3
Caroline Sihol ... Wife of the Rich and Depressed Man
Jean-Yves Berteloot ... Male Prostitute in night club
Bruno Cremer ... The Art Lover
Jean-Pierre Marielle ... The Rich and Depressed Man
Description
With Tenue de Soiree, Blier is once again investigating male insecurity and men's relations with other men. Essentially a remake of Les Valseuses, this film quickly removes the presence of a woman (Monique) to leave the way clear for Bob's seduction of Antoine. A complex film, part crime comedy, part transvestite film, Blier seems to lose his way at the midpoint and the ending seems tacked on. Depardieu and Blanc in particular are excellent, but the script lets them down. A homophobe becomes a fully dressed transsexual in about 90 minutes, hardly realistic and the misogynistic tone of the film can be draining.

Description
Set in Bilbao Spain in the early 80's we meet two teenagers Paco and Urko who deal drugs for living and hag out with Betty a foreign prostitute whom together they share sex and drugs mainly Heroin, Paco also hags out with a Homosexual local artist in secret. Well, the problem begins when Paco and Urko become addicted to Heroin, and not only that, Paco is the son of a sergeant of the Guardia Civil and Urko's dad is a leader of an important political party.

Portrait of the Spanish early 80's. In the tradition of typical underground films at the time, you can see a hidden image of Spain. The image of drug dealers, margined districts, police corruption and complete self governing cities inside the city. After the dead of the dictator Franco, an avalanche of drugs, rock and radical leftist and independentist activism flooded Spain. This transformed certain areas of the main Spanish cities into wild areas. Full of explicit violence and drugs, with a very well selected soundtrack, resembles the total freedom and anarchy atmosphere of that times and places.

When an injured wife murderer takes refuge on a remote Lancashire farm, the owners three children mistakenly believe him to be the Second Coming of Christ.

One of my favourite english films. Beautifully portraying rural Lancashire life in the sixties. The story is touching and marvellously played by all the children involved. One of the few films that can bring a tear to my eye, maybe because it reminds me of the child I once was in the sixties, but probably because it is a moving film and I suspect it would have the same affect on a native New Yorker. One of those old classics that if you haven't seen yet, you will be pleasantly surprised when you get round to it. You can take it as recommended!

Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1.85:1
Length: 95mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 608x304 - 25fps - 701mb

Description
The mutilated body of a six year old girl is found in a water hole. The girl is identified as the missing daughter of Claudia. However, only two peices of evidence could be used to identify her; a bracelet with her name on it near the crime scene, and the fact that her right leg was three inches longer than her left. All other methods of identification were removed from her body. Five years later Claudia, now addicted to tranquilizers, receives a phone call from someone claiming to be her daughter, asking for her mother to come find her before 'they' kill her...

Los Sin Nombre is a truly terrific Spanish horror thriller capable of scaring the viewer unlike the dozen of American late-90s horror boom flicks that have flooded box offices for way too long. Spanish director Jaume Balaguero uses old fashioned lightning tricks as well as modern editing to a good extent. Colors and mood are borrowed from David Fincher and the plot from Roman Polanski's masterpiece - Rosemary's Baby. Taking bits from here and there, Balaguero combines the elements to create a fine piece of cinema, definitely worthy of all it's Hollywood counterparts and more. Now, let's just hope that Balaguero gets invited to do his first Hollywood flick like his colleague Alejandro Amenabar (Tesis, The Others) as there's never enough fresh ideas in the boring US horror industry.

Language: English
Subtitles: none
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1.85:1
Length: 98mn
File: Dvdrip Divx Avi - 576x304 - 25fps - 700mb

Description
Clint Eastwood plays Dave Garver, a local radio DJ whose job interferes with his personal life often. Jessica Walter plays Evelyn Draper, a fan of Dave's who becomes a one night stand for him and eventually she puts herself in the position of his lover and his crazy, obsessed stalker. Donna Mills plays Tobie, Dave's former lover who re-enters his life at a very convenient time. John larch plays Sgt. McCallum, the officer who gets involved in the case of Dave and his obsessed fan.

Eastwood starts off his directing career on a very high note. Play Misty for Me is definitely a classic, and not a whole lot of other movies can transfer between genres as well as this classic can. Play Misty for Me starts off as a simple movie, basically becoming a romance movie, quickly turning into a thriller and almost a horror movie. The movie is a mix of genres, and they mix well too. This is definitely a high mark in Eastwood's career, and a change from his usual action movie.

As she get closer to the solution, she gets more and more convinced that Aku's deprogramming of former sectmembers is important.

Innovative, tense and unnerving tale that is also very stylish, with inspired visuals, imaginative use of sound and spectacular editing. It is also a little confusing upon first viewing but it is clear by the end that everything did make sense. An intelligent work that deals with gender/work issues, psychological make up and it's consequences plus the question of dealing with cult 'victims'.

Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1.85:1
Length: 102mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 640x352 - 23fps - 701mb
Description
In a loose adaptation of "Hansel and Gretel", Dutch siblings Jacob and Marie are abandoned by their parents and eventually make their way to Spain. In Spain, Marie marries surgeon Diego. Everything looks normal at first, but it becomes apparent that Diego might not be quite what he seems, especially after Jacob tries to drag Marie away from him.

This is about a passionate loving couple, being brother and sister. It is definitely incestous and rivals of different kinds are killed. It's absurd, it's a little Bunuel sometimes and mostly funny. Probably this is supposed to be a modern Grimm tale, but including sex. There are no real human beings here, like in Grimm. Like Hansel and Gretl, the brother and sister are alone in the world, with no parents to lean on. They leave Holland and come to a strange dreamlike Spain, where they meet another brother and sister, evil and crazy. There certainly are scenes here you will remember, but most of all you will remember the dark humour, which makes you laugh at totally wrong places.

A visually stunning experiment in motion picture storytelling Shynia Tsukamoto's "Bullet Ballet" is a semi-revenge tale, semi-philosophical examination of the human condition. It explores themes and ideas concerning both the moral and social collapse of the modern man. As his earlier works such as "Tetsuo" and "Tokyo Fist" Tsukamoto uses the visual representation, the composition of individual scenes, minimalist colour palette, in this case a wonderfully sharp contrast between black and white, to express his ideas rather than just bombarding us with excessive amounts of expository dialogue.

Well, this well-done intelligent documentary lets the art-form speak for itself. The doc is part of B rate films - but still a collection worth the clams if you consider yourself a Noir buff. Besides, the James Ellroy interview is worth all the bucks in-tself.

The more I was shocked about how the disabled were depicted in this film the more I started to realize that in every non-disabled TV counterpart of this show (German TV shows like "Popstars" or "Friedmann" or the home shopping channels) its mentally "non-handicapped" participants are treated in a completely identical way: The total prostitution of the mind in front a huge TV audience at the expense of one's most important gifts one should hang on to: dignity. On the other hand one could completely understand people who are furious about "exploiting" these handicapped persons. But that's what Schlingensief's works are all about: shock people and don't care about those who cannot or will not try to get the message (if there is one).

Language: French
Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: 1.37:1
Length: 42mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 720x576 - 25fps - 356mb
Description
Jean Vigo led a famously short life, he lived only until his thirties, and made four films, each of which were great, two of which were perfect. The first was l'Atalante, the second was 'Zero for Conduct', which was based on his experiences growing up an orphan living in several boarding schools, constantly battling lifelong ailments which would eventually go on to kill him. The poignancy of a life like his comes from the fact that some people spend their whole careers trying to make just one film that comes close to what he did effortlessly in his twenties, and no doubt had he lived longer he would have gained the recognition and popularity awarded to filmmakers like Truffaut and Godard, two directors who perhaps owe their careers to Vigo, particularly Truffaut, who's 400 Blows took much inspiration and material from this film. It is clear the artistic impact Vigo had, he was a master who experimented with sound and music loops well before it became fashion to do so, as well as camera speeds such as during the wonderful pillow fight sequence which is slowed down so we can see a hurricane of feathers gently floating around the frame.

Language: French
Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Length: 83mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 592x448 - 29fps - 895mb
Description
At 22, Céline receives several shocks: her father dies and she learns she was adopted; she rejects her inheritance, so her fiancé jilts her. She's suicidal. A nurse sees her weeping in public and takes her home. Her mother hires the nurse, Geneviève, to care for Céline; Geneviève imposes the same work and meditation regime she herself used to recover from similar depression two years before.

This is Jean Claude Brisseau's most beautiful film. Perhaps not the best, but for sure the one who contains more beauty. The character of Celine, quite mysterious, with a past that we barely know and a present of sadness, distress and suicidal tendencies will become the purest of Brisseau's career, the maximum aspiration of a director such interested in magic as a part of our lives, as something that is there, in every corner and that can save (or corrupt) our entire existence. Lisa Heredia, as the nurse, pragmatic and quite, represents the other point of view if we are not able to watch the film in his right sense. It's her and his capacity to believe what makes possible the impossible. Marvellous musical interludes from Georges Delerue and a superb cinematography by the not well known but great Romain Winding.

Description
In this Felliniesque allegory of racial and class tension, Marcello Mastroianni plays the title role, a deposed prince living in exile in a run-down London mansion. Watching birds from his window and ignoring the plans of hangers-on to restore him to his lost throne, Leo's gradual involvement with his impoverished black neighbors leads to a climactic act of self-dispossession. One of Boorman's unsung masterpieces, Leo the Last marks an early highpoint in his experiments in art direction. Decor, costumes, and backgrounds are all black, white or brown, and even the exteriors are severely desaturated. The soundtrack is even more experimental, revealing the director’s interest in the musical collages of composer Luciano Berio.

Kytice (2000) F.A. Brabec

Kytice (2000) aka Wind Flowers

Genre: Drama | Horror | Mystery | Romance
Director: F.A. Brabec
Country: Czech Republic
Language: Czech
Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1.85:1
Length: 81mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 608x320 - 25fps - 697mb
Description
Seven seemingly unconnected fairy tales - glued together only by folklore, mood, color and light - make up this Czech collection of visual poetry. The original piece of literature, written by Karel Jaromír Erben in 1853, contained twelve tales.

Kytice (The Bouquet or Garland) is an exquisitely beautiful compendium of Czech fairy tales in a mature mode. These is not fairy tales ala Disney. Rather this is 'Marchen', the serious mythopoeic stuff. These are fairy tales with a very dark brooding Eastern European flavour. The images were absolutely stunning. The film is a collection of seven stories loosely bolted together with an over riding theme. Visually I was reminded on "A Company of Wolves" or even "Immoral Tales", the blending of the genuinely erotic with a very dark undercurrent of death and fate were however quite beautiful. The stunning visuals did not need American special effects (and predictability) to convey absolutely unforgettable images.

Jack The Ripper (1976) Jess Franco

Jack The Ripper (1976)

Genre: Horror | Thriller
Director: Jess Franco
Country: West Germany
Language: English
Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1.75:1
Length: 90mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi -1024 x576 - 25fps - 698mb

Starring:
Klaus Kinski ... Dr. Dennis Orloff / Jack the Ripper
Josephine Chaplin ... Cynthia
Andreas Mannkopff ... Inspektor Selby
Herbert Fux ... Charlie, the Fisherman
Lina Romay ... Marika

Description
A serial killer whose mother was a prostitute starts killing streetwalkers as a way of paying back his mother for her abuse.

One of the remarkable elements about this improbably interesting, intelligent and engaging fictionalization of the Jack the Ripper story is the fact that the amazing Klaus Kinski is not the only reason the film held my interest. Basically, this is a rather graphic horror film with a lot of perverse sexuality (all of which is too disturbing to be interesting from any prurient perspective). Yet this is not Jesus Franco's standard garbage, but rather an interesting Freudian interpretation of Jack the Ripper, which deviates far enough from the actual historical facts to allow for a few surprises along the way.

The cinematography is generally good. The editing and pace are decidedly unamerican, and will turn off mainstream audiences. the film proceeds at a steady pace, but features dialog which is more oriented toward driving the plot than elaborating the characters. The cast is pretty uneven, but strong support comes from Menkopff, Chaplin and Fux. Kinski's role, though not much of a challenge for him, is interpreted with the great actor's usual intensity. The sets, though not particularly London, and a tad anachronistic at times, are detailed and enjoyable in their own right.

What the film does successfully - and again, it's not all Kinski - is to create a tense and disturbing atmosphere, punctuated with occasionally graphic scenes of sexual and bloody violence. Along the way, the director presents an interpretation of Jack the Ripper which is straight out of Freudian pop psychology. The effect is powerful, and the film is memorable.

Charles Manson Superstar (1989) Nikolas Schreck

Charles Manson Superstar (1989)

Genre: Documentary
Director: Nikolas Schreck
Country: USA
Language: English
Subtitles: none
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Length: 107mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 416x320 - 29fps - 698mb

Description:
For forty years, Charles Manson has survived most of his life in what he calls 'the hallways of the all ways,' the reform schools, jails and prisons that have been his home and tomb. His thought was born in the hole of solitary confinement, apart from time and beyond the grasp of society. In his cell, he created his own world and speaks his own language: he has concluded that there is only the mind. This documentary will relinquish to you the extreme story of the killer of all killers: Charles Manson. From convincing his followers to move into the desert to train for the apocalypse, to leading a murderous crew through a string of devilish murders, you will see and hear from Manson himself of how he created a preconceived terror based on his philosophy of life. Manson claims that the so-called 'straight' world outside of prison is but an inverted reflection of the underworld in which he has lived. To him, the reality that presidents and law-abiding citizens accept begins in the hermetic alternate universe of criminals, cons and outlaws. Much as simplistic historians have dismissed Hitler's 3rd Reich as the overcompensation of a failed artist, Manson's vision of a holy war has been generally categorized as nothing more than the jealous rage of a spurned musician.

Chekist (1992) - Aleksandr Rogozhkin

Chekist (1992) - Aleksandr Rogozhkin

Image

Plot:
A small Russian town in the early 1900's is the backdrop for this deeply disturbing film about a group of communist revolutionaries called the cheka-men who spend their days rounding up their political rivals for execution. The majority of the film takes place inside the basement of a charnel house. We are witnesses to execution after execution as people are killed with rapid expediency and professionalism. Men, women and children are forced to strip, stand against a wall, and then are shot. When the dead are removed, five more are brought in and the atrocity is committed again.
There is not a moments reprieve from the brutality as director Rogozhkin plants the camera and the story inside that basement. I found his examination of the assassin's mindset most interesting. Early on, the cheka-men seem indifferent to their jobs, but as the film winds down, we see that all the killing has slowly begun to erode their very souls. Igor Sergeyev is amazing as the ambitious chekist who finds himself caught up in a machine of death that he helped to create and slowly losing his mind. The film is like passing a car accident on a highway, it's horrible and you might not like what you see but you can't take your eyes off of it. A disturbing film that is hard to forget.

Language: English
Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Length: 113mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 512x384 - 700mb

Description:
This is perhaps one of the most masochistic films ever made. You are taken into the personal world of two British families in Sheffield (site of a major NATO installation), who have children that are about to be married. Thousands of miles away, World War 3 slowly starts, and the ultimate horror happens. Thermonuclear war breaks out. The world, literally, grinds to a halt, in one of the most scientifically accurate depictions of nuclear war since "War Game, The" (1965). Unlike the US film "Day After, The" (1983) (TV), the film gives detailed information as to what is happening on a scientific basis. You are shown how a worst-case scenario can happen, and what the effects are, as you follow the surviving members of the two families through the aftermath. The scenes of death, destruction and disease are so realistic, I had to shower after seeing this film for the first time. But what is most disturbing is that the film includes the long-term effects of global thermonuclear war, going into weeks, months, years, even decades. The film ends thirteen years after the nuclear attack, and the final frames of the film will burn into you like no other film ever will.

File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 608x448 - 23fps - 1.36gb

Starring:
Mithun Chakraborty ... Anil

Description:
Not only humiliated and beaten, Anil has his mother, Radha imprisoned for a crime she did not commit, all due to the arrogance and influence of wealthy P.N. Oberoi. When Radha is released from prison, the two leave the community and settle elsewhere. Years later Anil has grown to love music and sing. David Brown promotes Anil, and has his name changed to Jimmy. Jimmy becomes popular with the masses, and this does not auger well for Sam Oberoi, who is the only son of P.N. Oberoi. To make matters worse, both father and son are publicly humiliated at a well-attended party. Both conspire to bring an end to Jimmy's career, and they do so in such a devious way that Jimmy's life and career are changed forever.

This is the incredibly silly story of a heroic Disco Dancer and his mother trying to restore their good name and defeat the evil Disco Dancer and his rich, evil father. The evil Disco Dancer has a goofy Freddy Mercury mustache and rips off the 80's song Video Killed the Radio Star. The good Disco Dancer snaps his fingers when he fights like an extra from West Side Story. The main bad guy employs that big goofy looking bearded white guy who was in so many Indian movies of the era as a heavy. The musical numbers are the reason to show up - they are frequent and hilarious.

Youth of the Beast (1963) aka Yajû no seishun - Seijun Suzuki

[RS] Youth.of.the.Beast.1963.DVDRip.XviD-AEN

Language: Japanese (English idx/sub subtitles included)

Country: Japan

Genre: Action | Crime | Mystery

Director: Seijun Suzuki

Starring: Jo Shishido, Tomio Aoki, Nobuo Kaneko, Masao Shimizu

Synopsis: Youth of the Beast marked a turning point in director Seijun Suzuki's career. No longer content to just crank out production-line gangster films, here Suzuki starts to assert his own voice. The plot is fairly typical for the genre: chipmunk-cheeked Jo Shishido stars as ex-cop Jo Mizuno, who muscles his way into the shadowy world of the yakuza. He gets hired by the clan that killed his former partner while double-dealing with the clan's rival. Yet the plot contains some particularly Suzuki-like details. Why is Jo's partner more interested in guns than in women? Why does Hide, the notorious gay gangster, always slash the face of anyone who mentions his mother? What does this all have to do with the Takeshita School of Knitting? Suzuki's audacious style heightens the absurdity and artifice of both the genre and the medium with pop-art colors, loopy camera placements, and bizarre, dream-like images: A feather-clad dancer silently struts behind sound-proofed two-way mirrors, a pink dust storm serendipitously occurs while a pimp whips a junkie prostitute. The film is a dizzying visual feast whose tone Seijun Suzuki would amplify to the most absurd heights in his later films, Tokyo Drifter (1966) and Branded to Kill (1967).

Length: 118mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 704x416 - 29fps - 1.36gb
Description
Models is a realistic film. The genuine feeling of its characters is mesmerizing. It looks like an every day life film yet it never stops to make routine/cliché situations get a unique and mystical touch... like moments which stretch to become classic. It's scary to see our everyday life portrayed in there, the conflicts, the arguments, the power game, vanity, success, the hedonistic pursuit... etc. Models is about models but all in all everybody, male or female can identify with each and every one of the characters portrayed in the film. Ulrich Seidl once again succeeds in capturing the depth of every moment of every day life, similarly to Erich Roemer for example but in a more crude, less poetic yet highly artistic way. Seidl's art digs through our multiple layers of pretense to reveal the true human and through a self-assessment self knowledge process to lead to a dialectic procedure to evolve the human being a little bit higher than the dirt that we are made of and as primates step on. "Do I deserve to live" the song that plays as the credits go on screen summarizes the point of this film. Brilliant!

Corps à corps [Body to Body] 2003 - François Hanss

Corps a corps [Body to Body] 2003- François Hanss

Storyline:
Laura Bartelli is a stripper in a French bar. She retires after a moody landscape architect named Marco Tisserand asks her to abandon her life and share his. However, after her red Volkswagen runs off the road en route to the rendezvous, she ends up scarred and comatose in a hospital. Marco stays at her bedside.

After some months, she awakens in a world of silence and gradually begins her new life with Marco, which is filled with affection and tenderness. She begins to love herself as much as she loves Marco. They have a son, Jeannot. Laura's deafness is more an irritation than an impediment and six years pass in family harmony. However, when Jeannot displays an unusual dysfunction at school, she goes to see a psychologist in Lyon, and shows a photograph of her son with his father. The psychologist recognizes Marco as a former university student colleague and tells her that he is a doctor. She investigates and finds out that he is a doctor specialized in multiple transplants, and that his (also deaf) wife Claire and daughter Jeanne had a car accident and are in a coma. Their whereabouts are unknown. She further finds out that her own car accident is unregistered with the police, and that her "hospital room" was a room in her own house. The medications she has to take are for people who receive transplants. All this suggests that she received multiple transplants from the first wife: internal organs and a hand, and that her ability to hear was removed on purpose, thus creating a copy of the first wife.

After Laura comes back from her investigative tour, Marco imprisons her. He then confesses to her son that he chose Laura because she had a blood test at the hospital he worked, and that the blood characteristics were identical to his first wife. The "accident" did not happen as thought; instead, he put nails on the road so that she would crash and then ambushed and drugged her so she lost her memory of that moment. He gives his son a drink with a testosterone inhibitor, and tells him that he will have to drink it daily. Laura tries to escape with her son but they are recaptured. She is able to communicate with her son and tell him to switch off the family chateau's electricity. A second attempt to escape is successful, her son helps her to find the secret room where the comatose daughter/sister lies. When Marco comes with a syringe to paralyze Laura, there is a standoff and she cuts off the electricity there too. Marco falls on the syringe and dies.

Two months later, Laura gets ear implants and gets back 60% of her hearing. She and her son visit the grave of Marco and his first family. She wants to get rid of the hand and get a prosthesis.

Maria Pia Conte ... Xenia
Luigi Antonio Guerra ... Boy - in the 'incipit'

Description:
Christian (Robert Hoffman) and his girlfriend are taking a walk on a deserted beach when they discover a woman's body lying. A closer look proves that she's alive. The next day Christian meets her again at a yacht party and they fall in love. Later at a nearby motel, something weird happens as they prepare to go to bed together: An intruder breaks in and starts beating Christian who accidentally shoots him with his own gun. A few hours later they find out that the corpse is missing and a series of weird incidents takes place.

Umberto Lenzi's "Spasmo" is a very weird little film, even by gialli standards. It's a strange combination of Jean Rollin (the middle part in particular feels like something straight out of a Rollin film, in particular "Fascination") and David Lynch, so much so that one can argue how director Umberto Lenzi might be something of a poor man's Lynch. Nonetheless, it works, even if it takes itself way too seriously, often getting surrealism mixed up with cheesiness. The dialog is awfully goofy, and the script jumps all over the place. This might've been Lenzi's intention, and here, he shows that he is actually a pretty competent director, creating genuine suspense as well as some of the most haunting imagery in a genre film. Ennio Morricone's equally dreamy soundtrack perfectly matches the disorienting set pieces and it's perverse sexuality, and it's quite possibly it's highlight alongside the gorgeous cast of women.

Description
East of France, December 1917. In a village situated close to the front but protected from it by a hillside, the body of Belle de Jour, a little girl, is found by the canal. Judge Mierck, assisted by an Colonel Matzev representing the Armed Forces, investigates the case in his own way. The fact that the young victim's corpse lies a few yards from the manor of Destinat, the withdrawn, haughty-looking district attorney, who has always despised and humiliated him, doesn't escape him. To make matters worse, a witness has seen the magistrate not only talking with Belle but patting her cheek as well minutes before the little girl was strangled. But vengeance is one thing and class privilege another...

The almost surreal and thrilling atmosphere, the mysterious labyrinth of fate, the brutality of the facts and the suavity of a choice poetry, the weirdness, the bizarre air, the flux of strangeness; also the skill, the craft, the science of delivering an exquisite show of ambiguity and bitterness …. Within the today cinema's context, these things are absolutely extraordinary. Grey Souls is a delicious film. Implausibly well acted (by a Marielle who keeps looking very old of so many years now …, and a ferocious, zoomorphic, no less able Villeret in one of his best roles ever).

''A Holy Place'' is often considered as Serbian horror No.2, trailing only ''The She-Butterfly''. Both movies directed Đorđe Kadijević, whose other, less known movies also had horror elements in various extents. Based on Nikolay Gogol's ''Viy'', ''A Holy Place'' has much darker atmosphere (and more violent scenes) than 1967 Soviet movie ''Viy'', but unlikely, remained almost unknown worldwide.
Three young priests are rumbling across the countryside, hoping that someone would give them shelter and food. An old and dirty peasant woman meet their needs. After her sudden death, the three men go further and arrive to the village. The wealthy landlord, whose daughter just passed away, insists that one of the priests read prayers standing next to her coffin, three nights in a row.

Torso (1973) - Sergio Martino

Torso aka I corpi presentano tracce di violenza carnale (1973) - Sergio Martino

Image

Synopsis:
Torso is an example of the Italian giallo genre; stylish suspense thrillers which flourished in the '60s and '70s, and paved the way for American films like Halloween and Friday the 13th. Directors like Mario Bava (Black Sunday) and producers like Carlo Ponti (Dr. Zhivago) are famed for this genre.
Ponti teamed with director Sergio Martino (Screamers) for this tale of a killer targeting four nubile college coeds in a villa. If this sounds trite and overdone, remember that films like this are the ones that created the genre, and this one is surprisingly well done. The film crackles with suspense, especially during the last 30 minutes. The film also has the Euro attitude toward nudity, with plenty of nude beauties running around.

Emanuelle, a reporter, comes just a little too close to exposing a corrupt official, and is sent to prison on trumped-up charges. In the prison, the inmates are constantly humiliated and tortured by the prison staff. Overly affectionate prisoners are forced underwater, while others are obliged to look on. Emanuelle finds an enemy in the deranged Albina, who "runs the prison." For the pleasure of the warden, Emanuelle and Albina are forced to fight each other with knives. Bad becomes worse when four men awaiting execution escape and take over the prison. Gore flows like water.

Byleth (1972) Leopoldo Savona

Byleth (1972) aka Byleth - il demone dell'incesto

Genre: Gothic Horror
Director: Leopoldo Savona
Country: Italy
Language: Italian
Subtitles: English (.srt file)
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 1.85:1
Length: 80mn
File: Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 608x320 - 700mb

Description:
A young man possessed by the demon spirit of incest since he was a boy is morbidly in love with his sister. Toss in some female victims, all killed naked with a three-points blade and the fact that this was the first time incest themes were documented in an Italian horror film this way and you have sleazy winner.

"Byleth - Il Demone Dell'Incesto" (1972) is an odd Italian flick that isn't very widely known; while this weird little flick is certainly no highlight of Italian 70s Horror, however, it is definitely a beautifully made film that most of my fellow Italo-Horror buffs should enjoy. "Byleth" is an overall very weird little film, with a somewhat confused storyline which doesn't make a lot of sense. The film makes up for what it lacks in continuity, however, with a very beautiful visual style and intense Gothic atmosphere, a great score, a ravishing female cast (and ravishing female nudity) and a pleasantly bizarre mood. As the title implies, the film has to do with incest, and with an eponymous demon; not wishing to spoil anything, I will not continue with a plot description - but even if I did wish to write a synopsis of the storyline, it would probably take me a long time to do so, as it is so very bizarre and, to put it mildly, doesn't always make perfect sense.
