Ilija Čvorović, ex-political convict (He was Stalinist, but he still keeps His picture in the cellar!), is called by secret police to routinely answer about his new tenant, a businessman who just came from Paris (This was normal thing in socialist countries back then, for every person who comes from West). Ilija is now convinced that his tenant represents biggest threat to national security, and starts to persecute an innocent man, and his friends as well. His paranoia becomes more and more serious, and he armes himself, he puts iron bars on the windows, and finally he invites his brother for a help to destroy the "imperialistic forces".
The Balkan Spy is easily among Top 5 most beloved movies in Serbia, and Dušan Kovačevićs book (on which movie is based) is obligate lecture in high school programme.
