Young Soviet Army recruits are sent from a boot camp into the middle of the war in Afghanistan. The action is not like a boot camp at all. It is very bloody and dirty. The 9th company is defending the hill 3234. They are hopelessly calling for help. But help never comes. "This is war, you kill, or get killed", says the 9-th company leader Khohol (Bondarchuk). They believed that they served their country. But two years later that country ceased to exist.
Sinopsis: Un grupo de soldados rusos que participan en la invasión de Afganistán en los años 80 vivirá una cruda experiencia cuando tengan que luchar juntos y ver cómo muchos compañeros caen en la que fue una de las más sangrientas batallas de la historia. Cruda mirada del conflicto en Afganistán contado por el oficial Khokhol, papel interpretado por Fyodor Bondarchuk -hijo del célebre Sergei Bondarchuk (Waterloo)-, el cual dirige también la cinta. Destacan por encima de todo las secuencias de acción y la fotografía de Maksim Osadchy.
Basada en la historia verídica de un grupo de soldados soviéticos que participaron en los años 80 en la invasión a Afganistán. Una sangrienta guerra que llevó a la muerte a miles de hombres de ambos lados. La película muestra la historia, a través de los ojos del oficial Khokhol, la lucha de jóvenes soldados que creyendo estar cumpliendo con su país, murieron valientemente en la cima de una montaña conocida como "Cumbre 3234"
